Spotlight on Our New Team Members: Meet Jack Mapplebeck, Criminal and Prison Law Paralegal

At John Black Solicitors, we are excited to welcome Jack Mapplebeck to our team. With a strong academic background, diverse legal experience, and a passion for providing exceptional client support, Jack is a valuable addition to our firm. As a Criminal and Prison Law Paralegal, Jack brings a unique skill set and dedication to helping clients navigate complex legal challenges.

About Jack Mapplebeck: From Leicester to Barcelona

Jack holds a joint degree in Law and Spanish from the University of Leicester, where he specialised in criminal trials, appeals, and prosecutions during his final year. His academic journey included a transformative year abroad in Barcelona, where he studied international law and enhanced his Spanish and Catalan language skills.

Beyond his academic achievements, Jack gained hands-on experience as a pro bono legal adviser, supporting community members with a variety of legal issues, and as a paralegal at a national personal injury and consumer law firm. These roles helped him develop client-focused communication skills, attention to detail, and a practical approach to case management.

Jack’s Role at John Black Solicitors

As a Crown Court Caseworker based in our Manchester office, Jack collaborates with solicitors and barristers to prepare complex Crown Court cases. His responsibilities include:

  • Preparing cases for hearings in Manchester and Lancashire courts.

  • Instructing counsel and liaising with barristers on behalf of clients.

  • Ensuring that every client receives the highest standard of representation.

In addition, Jack serves as a key member of our prison law team, acting as the first point of contact for prison law queries. He provides clients with regular updates on their cases, takes detailed instructions, and offers clear, practical advice tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.

“I am passionate about achieving the very best outcomes for our clients, particularly in challenging and complex criminal cases,” Jack shares.

Why John Black Solicitors?

Jack was drawn to John Black Solicitors for its stellar reputation in Criminal and Prison Law and over 25 years of experience in providing expert legal services.

“The firm’s commitment to tailored representation and attention to detail resonates with my own values,” Jack explains. “I’m excited to contribute to a team that is approachable, client-focused, and dedicated to achieving the best outcomes.”

Goals and Aspirations

Jack’s goal is to make a meaningful impact by supporting clients through the complexities of the legal system. By staying up to date on legal developments, such as changes to prison release rules and government policies addressing prison capacity, Jack ensures his advice is informed and relevant.

“Ultimately, I want to enhance my understanding of complex Crown Court cases and contribute to the firm’s reputation for excellence in client representation,” Jack adds.

A Glimpse into Jack’s Life Outside Work

Outside the office, Jack enjoys exploring the great outdoors. A keen hiker, he often spends weekends navigating the picturesque trails of the Peak District with his dog. He’s also an avid indoor rock climber, finding it a rewarding way to unwind and stay active.

Fun Fact: Fluent in Spanish and Catalan

Did you know Jack worked as a campaign volunteer for the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, during his time abroad? His fluency in Spanish and working proficiency in Catalan make him a valuable asset in cases involving diverse clients or international elements.

Message to Colleagues and Clients

As he begins his journey with John Black Solicitors, Jack is eager to collaborate with colleagues across all offices and provide exceptional support to clients.

“I’m excited to work alongside such a skilled and dedicated team. My focus will always be on ensuring clients receive the best representation possible,” Jack says.
